Olney Theatre Center believes that arts education plays an essential role in our nation’s cultural health. That’s why in addition to our arts integration program, we offer apprenticeships. The apprenticeship program is a yearlong experience intended to offer emerging theater artists a bridge between university and the profession. For one year, 16 apprentices live and work on OTC’s campus in every facet of the organization. Meet one of our two Carpentry apprentices, Kasey Logan!

Hometown: Mt. Vernon, Indiana (A small town in the Southwest Corner of the state. It’s almost Kentucky, and almost Illinois.)
What is the path that brought you to OTC?
Before coming to OTC, I was in an internship in Memphis, TN for 14 months where we did more shows than we do here, so I never really had the time to learn all the things I wanted to. So when I interviewed with JKJ at UPTA's, it seemed like a great opportunity to slow down a bit and take time to learn things I didn't have time for. Then I interviewed with Sarah, and here I am, learning all the things I've wanted to learn with great people willing to take the time to teach me.
What are you working on right now?
Right now, we are working on installing Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors on the Mainstage. More specifically, we are working on getting the full-stage wagon for the show put together and lined up where it needs to be.
What is something you are looking forward to?
Honestly, I’m looking forward to a whole lot of things. I'm looking forward to spring, and being able to be outside and wear shorts. I'm looking forward to meeting the new apprentices when they come in May. And I'm really looking forward to everything about Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical this summer, from the build to the run of the show.
What’s special about Olney Theatre Center?
The people I get to work and live with. I love working with everyone in the scene shop. Abby, Frank, Mike, Sarah, Steve, and Joey and Stephie Jo that come and overhire. Really, with them around any situation can become fun. Including running behind a truck in the cold rain with a heavy piece of scenery.
The people I live with everyday are also part of what makes this place great. I have my star of a roommate Elynora, to share Reese's cups with in the evenings, I get to ask Caroline what delicious things they are making that particular day, or I can just hang out on the porch and watch Disney VHS's all day as people filter through.
