Meet Tour 72: Jordan Essex

Name and pronouns? Where are you from/currently residing?

Jordan Essex(he/him). From Riverdale, Maryland

What drew you to theatre?

From a young age I always loved theatre. I literally used to come home everyday after school and watch The Sound of Music. So when highschool came and I knew no one, I decided to take a chance and audition for the fall play. What drew me in and kept me there was the sense of community that came from trying to put on one thing, and the joy I saw it brought not only myself but the people around me and the people watching. 

What drew you to National Players?

I'm joining the Players a bit later in the year so I knew auditioning and jumping in so quickly would be a daunting task, and even with those things being present I knew I had to go for it. Having just graduated from college I couldn't think of a better time to join a group like this that gets to explore the country, spread the love of theatre, and reach out and teach communities. It just seemed like the perfect place to not only perform, but to also learn from all those around me.

What are you most looking forward to on the tour?

Having only been to 9 states(including the DMV so really only like 6) in our country I'm most looking forward to getting the chance to see new cities and see so much of this country that I thought I'd never get to see or perform in.

What do you hope to do after the tour?

I hope to continue my career in acting, staying based in the DMV area and possibly continuing my education and getting my masters at some point. 

What’s something you want people to know about you?

Other than my love for theatre I love watching movies and trying my best to guess where I know the actors from. I also recently fell in love with crocheting and have been teaching myself how to crochet since February 2021 and would love to start a little business with it one day.
